Brittany’s Heart

by James Conley

For more than 2,000 years, from its origins as a Gallic village to its status as the capital of the Duchy, the village of Rennes has been the gentle heart of Brittany.

Situated at the confluence of the Vilaine and Ille rivers, Rennes has long attracted merchants and has a bustling and active life that illustrates the best of the French ideal: while a center of high-tech development, Rennes is also home to a university with over 66,000 students, as well as a weekly farmer's market that has operated for more than 400 years. It's a mix of activities that celebrates the sweetest parts of life, in the gentlest of ways.
